Choosing from the range of Coleman lanterns

Coleman lanterns come in many different shapes and sizes, with all manner of different types of fuel – some proprietary, others standard. When choosing a lantern to fit your needs from all available Coleman lanterns, there are a few points that you should bear in mind to ensure that you pick the appropriate model for your needs.

Even if you are not thinking of changing one of your current Coleman lanterns, then a quick visit to your local retailer, or e-tailer, could still be in order, to take advantage of the wealth of Coleman accessories available for all lanterns in their range.

For example, it is well known that Coleman lanterns are high quality products, designed to work, year in, year out for twenty or thirty years, with good annual maintenance. It is therefore likely that you own one that was manufactured before 1985, and needs a match to get it going.

You could choose a new lantern from the Coleman range, or you could buy a handy accessory called the Lantern Spark Ignitor, designed to work with most Coleman lanterns manufactured before 1985, has a replaceable flint, and lets you spark up your lantern without the use of a match!

With Coleman lanterns available in models that run on kerosene, propane and even regular unleaded fuel, there are more choices than ever before. Try to ensure that you pick one which has an appropriate weight – if you are camping, bear in mind that you will need to carry spare canisters around with you, which will add weight.

A final note for travelers wanting to take their Coleman lanterns on aircraft – many carriers will not let you take pressurized fuel canisters on board, and you may not find the fuel you need when you reach your destination. The Dual Fuel lantern operates either on Coleman fuel or unleaded fuel. Perfect.
