Picking the perfect canopy
Whether you are looking for some mobile shade or need something
more substantial, there’s a canopy what will fit your needs
perfectly. In the backyard or at the beach, a canopy can reduce
exposure to harmful ultraviolet rays, whilst still letting you
enjoy being out of doors. Most canopies are now both lightweight
and sturdy, with simple instructions to ensure that even the
novice or fumble fingered can set it up or take it down without
any problem.
When sizing up the canopy, look at the overall height and “foot
print”, allowing about 1 square meter per person standing or
sitting. With such a wide range of products you may find it
confusing to decide which canopy to choose, so think about the
following checklist to help narrow down your choice:
·
Intended use and number of people who will be using it
·
Size – both packed and when set up (the footprint)
·
Weight
·
Ease of set up and break down
·
Structural design (eg pavilion design, screens / netting, etc)
If you are looking for some personal shelter at the beach or
fishing, a one-man windbreak canopy is ideal. If you have a large
family, consider something a bit more substantial so that everyone
can shelter.
Using a canopy for camping is great for extending the “full
height” living area – particularly in foul weather. Those with
netting provide a protective screen to keep flying insects at bay
at dawn or after dusk. It can also double as additional storage
to protect gear you may not want to keep in a tent.
