Know where
you’re going with a compass watch
For those involved in outdoor pursuits, like trekking and
backpacking, it is always helpful to know where you are in space
an time, and a good compass watch can be a really helpful all in
one unit. Not to mention the fact that a compass watch also
makes a great gift for your favorite backpacking buddy.
As electronics get smaller and smaller, manufacturers can pack
more functionality into the standard compass watch, so that
features which only existed in the expensive models can now be
found across the board. So you needn’t spend a fortune to get a
useful, powerful gadget.
These advances include adding heart rate monitors, barometers
and altimeters to the standard compass watch combination, so
that you can check your fitness level as well as rates of ascent
and descent. Naturally, you will also be able to calculate your
speed, but until the scientists manage to cram a GPS onto the
watch as well, then you’ll have to do this manually.
One thing to check, as always, is that the compass watch you
desire is suitable for the conditions under which you will be
using it. Special varieties exist for snow expeditions, extreme
heat and humidity resistant watches, as well as those which are
suitable for immersion in deep water for long periods.
Of course, being a timepiece, you can also buy a compass watch
in a classic style, with a real compass dial rather than just a
digital read out. While these might be more expensive than the
regular pure digital variety, they certainly look the part and
are stylish enough to wear as a fashion accessory rather than
simply a leisure activity product.
