Outdoor shower : camp site luxury?
You might think that buying your very own outdoor shower was
something of a luxury. After all, if you are planning on
visiting a public camp site, for which you are actually going to
be paying a fee, you would at least hope that they would provide
you with an outdoor shower, if not an indoor one.
On the other hand, for those of you who have shared an outdoor
shower with the sweaty masses, or if you want to put one in your
garden to clean off after a hard days gardening, then there are
some points to watch out for when choosing your ideal model.
Firstly, the portable outdoor shower. For those of us who want
the privacy of our own shower whilst camping. These tend to come
in two varieties, solar heated and electrically heated. If you
want a guaranteed hot shower, then you will need to find a
reliable electricity supply, which usually means a vehicle
battery. Obviously not much use if you’re camping.
At the more expensive end of the outdoor shower market, there
are versions which are propane heated, and will heat to 40
degrees reasonably quickly, using the power of 4 batteries to
haul the water out of a lake.
While the idea of an outdoor shower for camping and hiking might
be attractive, they do tend to be very heavy, so it is something
you would leave at base camp. For those of you who are looking
for a permanent fixture, or want that real home from home feel,
they are also available with a tent, so you can shower outside,
but, in a sense, inside, at the same time.
