Sleep easy on long journeys thanks to a travel pillow
Whether you’re taking a trip to base camp, visiting a friend on
another continent, or just settling down for a long car journey,
a travel pillow will help prevent that awful neck and back
stiffness that we all associate with such journeys. Besides
being just a comfort item, the travel pillow is also
ergonomically designed to prevent damage to the vertebrae that
can happen in your sleep, without you knowing.
Although many people associate inflatable objects with a
breathless fight with the valve, the travel pillow manufacturers
have addressed this by ensuring that they are quick and easy to
inflate and deflate. After all, you’re going to be stressed out
enough with just traveling, the last thing you want is to spend
hours trying to inflate your pillow.
Of course if an inflatable travel pillow is not your style, then
there are alternatives, usually stuffed with a fiber which
compresses for easy storage, and then springs back to its
original shape when you unroll the pillow. Some travelers find
these to be more comfortable when traveling in an air
conditioned vehicle, since the stuffing is warmer than pure air.
The shape of your travel pillow is also important. There are
currently two on the market – a U shape and a squarer variety
that looks more like a typical pillow. Tests have shown that the
more traditional horseshoe pillow can leave your neck open to
cold air, and provide less support for the head than other,
squarer varieties. In the end, though, it is likely to be down
to personal choice.
