Buying discount binoculars

There are many makes of binoculars on the open market, some branded and some classified as discount binoculars. The general approach to remember when shopping for a pair of discount binoculars is that they fall into two board categories – big names that have reached their end of line, or been superseded by better models, or small name brands delivering similar optical power for less expense.

Obviously, if you can find a pair of discount binoculars which fall into the first category, then this will be preferential over the second. A good pair of binoculars, with extra features such as rubber handling grips, a tough carry case, perhaps anti glare lenses and so forth, from a reputable manufacturer, will always be expensive.

Indeed, even if you can find a pair of big name discount binoculars, the power which they deliver will usually be far less than that provided by a cheaper brand (and the Russians seem quite good at this) which comes with less features than the big brands.

If the optical power is the deciding factor for you, then due to the price of optical goods in general, you may well decide that buying a pair of real discount binoculars is the right solution for you. Be aware, however, that not only will they tend to be less compact than the other brands, but they will have a slightly more clunky feel to them, and will not usually come with the same range of advanced features or guarantee that the more expensive brands do.
