The Garmin
GPS V is truly an all-round navigation system
Although there are different
navigation systems aimed at different kinds of users, the Garmin
GPS V system is truly an all round system with features which
are applicable in a variety of situations and expeditions.
Whether you are looking for an auto based road navigation
system, or a portable trekking unit, you will find that the
Garmin GPS V has a mode for you.
This versatility doesn’t make the basic unit any more expensive
to own than others on the market, either, and the advantage of
the Garmin GPS V is that it is portable enough to serve as a
vehicular and handheld unit. Indeed, among the included
accessories are a wrist strap and 12 volt adapter for the
cigarette lighter found in most vehicles.
If you are a mariner, then you will feel reassured by the
features that the Garmin GPS V boasts for boating use. There are
a series of alarms to check for anchor drag and off course
navigation, as well as built in celestial tables and variable
position formats so that you can align the readings with a
traditional paper chart.
Quite why you would still need a paper map is, however, we don’t
know. The Garmin GPS V comes with enough PC connectivity
features, as well as compatibility with standard mapping formats
to ensure that even if the maps that are supplied with the
system (which go down to street level) are not enough, then you
will certainly be able to supply your own.
