Outdoor
grills make food taste better
Everything tastes better when it is cooked and eaten outside,
and one of the benefits of camping and trekking is the
possibility to cook in the great outdoors, usually on one of a
variety of outdoor grills. While many people think of eating
camp food cooked on a fire, there are certain advantages which
outdoor grills have over this approach that can not be denied.
The first is that old chestnut – safety. Outdoor grills improve
fire safety because they contain the flames in one area, and
will not allow them to get out of control. An open fire, unless
managed properly, is a very dangerous prospect, even for those
who know what they are doing, and is best avoided.
Now, the avid trekker may complain that outdoor grills are just
too bulky to carry around in a backpack. Not only do they
generally take up a lot of space, but they also require very
bulky fuel – either canisters of propane or butane, or, even
worse, sacks of charcoal. There are, in fact, many manufacturers
who are addressing this problem with more portable models, but
the best choice for backpacking is still the propane stove.
For the rest of us, we have to choose between so many outdoor
grills, that it lay feel like a daunting prospect. However, as
long as you know what kind of fuel you are looking for (gas or
charcoal), and whether it should be portable enough to take
camping with you, or whether it is destined for your back yard,
you are sure to find a model that fits your budget.
