Outdoor
survival requires technique or technology
You don’t have to be an expert in outdoor survival to know that
there are certain things which you will need to take with you,
no matter where you go which will make your chances of making it
through the trip that much higher. The term outdoor survival may
not be as dramatic as avoiding death or serious injury – it can
be as simple as not getting a cold.
Yes, if you catch a cold whilst on a three day trek in the
countryside, you will probably survive, but real outdoor
survival can also be about much more – being comfortable enough
to enjoy the scenery, for example. There are a few things which
should be high up on your list to make this so.
One thing that should be top of anyone’s list if they are
planning an excursion in terrain which is even slightly life
threatening or extreme is to attend a course at a specialist
outdoor survival school. There are quite a few springing up as
extreme tourism and alternative holiday packages take hold in
the mind of the consumer.
After all, we are generally getting more exotic in our
vacationing tastes, as a society, and we have the means to take
outdoor survival to a new level. Some schools even offer field
courses in which the students can practice their classroom
learnt skills in the real outdoors.
In the end, there are two techniques to dealing with outdoor
survival – you can either take it all with you, and hope that
you are fit enough to carry it off, or you can learn the
techniques that enable you to survive in the wild without the
technology, and take a course at a suitable survival school.
