The Garmin
eTrex series : truly portable navigation
The Garmin eTrex range of portable GPS systems mark a revolution
in handheld navigation for sports, recreation and maritime
users. Each one weighs around 5 ounces and is four inches high,
and two inches wide, but comes packed with the usual array of
features that we have come to expect from Garmin equipment. The
Garmin eTrex range also has a system to fit every budget, with
the cheapest model providing an intelligent alternative to the
trusty compass, and the more expensive ones delivered pre-loaded
with basemaps.
Those in the mid range also support a reduced set of mapping
functions, and each of the systems in the Garmin eTrex range
share basic features such as being completely waterproof, and
sporting a user-friendly interface which makes operation as
painless as carrying the unit.
Navigation is made easier by virtue of the fact that all the
systems support unique features for reversing the path that has
been logged to help you find your way home, a useful feature
which has made it onto even the cheapest units in the Garmin
eTrex range.
Of course, paying the extra premium to buy one of the more
advanced Garmin eTrex systems guarantees additional features and
flexibility such as complete basemaps, and the possibility to
connect the system to a PC, and download maps from CD-ROMs.
All units in the Garmin eTrex range can be loaded with at least
500 waypoints, animated graphics, support a variety of
positioning data formats, and run from standard AA batteries.
