The thing to remember about the Magellan SporTrak is that it is
a navigation system aimed squarely at the hunting, fishing and
exploration enthusiasts. You will still need to use a map to be
able to properly locate yourself with reference to surrounding
terrain, but at least the full fledged navigational features of
the Magellan SporTrak will take the guesswork out of pinpointing
yourself on the map.
This is one of the most important aspects of any GPS, and the
Magellan SporTrak is accurate to within 3 meters, as long as you
remain in an area covered by the Wide Area Augmentation System,
which helps the navigation system to improve its pinpointing
derived from the satellite network.
Even if you are standing still, the Magellan SporTrak has a
sophisticated feature which enables you to see your heading
without moving, which is very useful in low visibility
situations such as night or fog, where you would like to move as
little as possible.
Always with the sports enthusiast in mind, the Magellan SporTrak
comes packed with additional features such as a fish and game
calculator, and sun and moon positions. For those who need the
navigational input, there is also a complete location database
of 11,000 cities included, to which more can be added thanks to
the possibility to interface the unit with a PC.
Finally, as you would expect, the Magellan SporTrak is rugged
and waterproof, to the point that you can submerge it fully in
water, and it will float!
