The long
tradition of Kelty tents
Kelty was started in 1952 by a carpenter, Dick Kelty, who began
by making affordable, high quality, robust backpacks, and the
techniques which he employed have been carried over into the
range of Kelty tents. Built on an uncompromising basis with
attention paid to weight, setup time, space and protection
against the elements, Kelty tents are available from 1 person
right up to 7 person models, all created with the avid
adventurer in mind.
Each product in the range of Kelty tents comes with a warranty
against defects in materials or workmanship which is valid for
the lifetime of the original owner. Of course, this is voided in
case of mishap in the field; no tent can be made to stand up
against natural damage from animals, severe weather or small
children.
There are two kinds of poles that Kelty tents employ, and both
have their advantages and disadvantages. Fiberglass poles are
cost effective and lightweight, but not as durable as aluminum
poles. Generally speaking, these poles will be arranged in
either single or multiple configurations. Single pole tents are
lighter to carry but more likely to be affected by the elements
– such as stormy weather and high winds.
When choosing from the range of Kelty tents, it is also
important to bear in mind that they are available in models
which are suitable for 3 or 4 seasons. Generally specking, if
you are about to embark on an expedition which will involve
arriving at a mountain summit, where the climate approaches
winter, a 4 season rated tent will be required.
