Choosing
between mini flashlights
There used to be only one technology for use in flashlights, and
it required a bulb, some batteries, and a reflector. Some
companies making mini flashlights also threw in a lens to
concentrate or spread an otherwise tiny beam so that it could be
used in a variety of conditions. These days, however, technology
is moving so fast that even simples things like mini flashlights
were naturally going to receive an upgrade at some point.
Now, with the advent of mini flashlights based on LED
technology, they have. For those of you who do not already know,
an LED is a light emitting diode, which, when an electrical
current is passed through it, lights up. Those of you who have
played around with LEDs will be a little surprised that they
have found their way into this area, since they usually give out
very little light.
But, with their entry into the arena of mini flashlights,
manufacturers have found a way to not only increase their output
of light, but also create a lens and reflector system which
gives out an amazing amount of light.
There are many advantages over using a bulb in mini flashlights,
such as the fact that the unit becomes more lightweight, and is
maintenance free. An LED will not burn out in the same way that
a bulb does, and requires much less current for the same light
emission, meaning that the whole package, including batteries is
far lighter than a traditional flashlight, whilst being as
strong.
