Benefits of a
candle lantern
On the camp site, or even in the back yard, there are times when
you would like some light – not enough to really light up the
area, but enough to see by and give a relaxing, warm glow, and
for this, a candle lantern is the perfect choice. It is good to
remember, however, that a candle lantern is not designed to give
out as much light as a kerosene lamp, electrical torch or any
other powerful lighting equipment, and so will not be useful for
doing anything that requires a lot of light, such as cooking.
However, the standard candle lantern has some big advantages
over the other lighting devices. One of these is cost – each
candle will cost far less than the kerosene, electricity or
batteries that are needed to power the other sorts of lighting.
With recent technological advances, manufacturers have designed
candles that are longer burning, have a more even flame, and
burn cleaner than ever before.
The other advantage is reliability. The fact is that, unlike a
candle lantern, gas, kerosene and electrical lighting devices
all have parts which can fail. These include valves, pumps,
mantles and wicks.
The candle lantern, on the other hand is easy to light, has only
a candle, no moving parts or valves. There have even been times
when people have claimed to be able to start a candle when the
wick is wet. The only drawback being, of course, that the naked
flame has to be very well protected as it does not burn in a way
which is as stable as, for example, pressurized gas.
