The
kerosene lantern; a convenient classic
Lighting up a tent or camp area can be quite difficult; it can
sometimes be a job to get just the right combination of warm
fuzzy glow and enough light to actually be able to see by, which
makes a kerosene lantern the perfect solution. Other kinds of
lighting, such as electric or gas based, can seem somehow too
cold and harsh for a camp site, and candle light is generally
too weak to be practical - a kerosene lantern gives you the best
of both worlds.
Of course a kerosene lantern can also be used in the home, it is
not just for camping trips. It is generally more economical than
other forms of back yard lighting and brings that outdoor, camp
site, holiday atmosphere to every occasion. This is especially
nice if you are entertaining or having a lazy summer evening
barbeque.
When choosing your kerosene lantern it is important to bear in
mind the conditions under which it will be used, and the amount
of light that you need from it – there are some models which are
clearly aimed at backpackers and other outdoor leisure
enthusiasts. They tend to be lightweight, and smaller, with the
consequence that they give out less light and have less in the
reservoir.
Also, it is possible to buy various styles of decorative
kerosene lantern, from those that resemble burning torches to
ones which are modeled on classic, vintage kerosene lamps such
as those manufactured by Coleman. All in all, there is certainly
enough choice to be able to find one which has just the right
combination of style, portability and lighting power.
