Comparative
tent reviews
Tents are the mainstay of any camping expedition, but trying to
choose one based on the various tent reviews that you can read
in magazines or on the internet may not be the best approach to
actually finding one which is appropriate for you. However,
other peoples tent reviews are the only way that you can try to
make a decision – after all you can not afford to try out all
the different models and manufacturers yourself, so it is the
only way to find out what the various features are and how they
stack up.
There are several types of tents, and it is important to be sure
that the tent reviews are comparing tents which actually have
the features that you want. Like any other comparative review,
if there are 10 models being reviewed, but only 5 of them have
features which the consumer is looking for, for that particular
consumer, it is only a review of 5 tents, which is going to
limit their choice.
Quite often, tent reviews put lightweight and ultra light weight
tents next to each other, and point out that one is lighter than
the other because it has fiberglass poles rather than aluminum
ones, but that it is going to be less stable in high winds and
bad weather. As well as being obvious, the chances are that the
two tents are aimed at different consumer profiles, and so it is
not a worthwhile comparison.
So, reading tent reviews is a good way to help you make a
decision, but you probably need to make your own feature list,
and decide what is important to you before you start.
