Safety
features of camping heaters
These days, there are several kinds of camping heaters to choose
from, ranging from old style flame based affairs to the newer,
non fire, gas versions. These modern camping heaters have the
added advantage of not using a flame, thus being safer an not
producing any poisonous gases, just lots of heat.
Generally speaking, camping heaters are capable of producing a
lot of heat, and can be used in a variety of situations. If you
want to heat a tent, though, then it is important to note that
only a non-fire based heater will be appropriate. The build up
of poisonous gases inside a tent makes any other option
dangerous.
In the past, people have tried to build their own solutions for
heating tents, and while camping heaters remain reasonably
expensive, it is not worth the risk of something going wrong and
starting a fire. Some solutions which are strictly out of the
question are trying to heat the tent with the open flame of a
gas cooker, or using candles in a jar.
The only drawback with using a non-flame gas heater in a tent is
that it still needs a lot of air around it, which reduces the
useable tent area. While you are not going to leave it running
while you sleep, it can still leave the inhabitants with a less
comfortable camping experience. Camping heaters exist, however,
which can be located outside the tent, with tubes supplying heat
to the occupants.
These camping heaters can be rather expensive, however, but the
additional cost is more than made up for by their versatility
and the added safety of not locating a hot machine inside the
tent itself.
