Different
kinds of tent camping
One might have thought that there was only one kind of tent
camping, but this is not the case. In fact, there are three
kinds, and each requires different equipment. The first kind of
tent camping is that which is done whilst also trekking. The
idea is that you pick up your tent, put it into a backpack, and
rush off into the great outdoors for a fun vacation. This
requires a lightweight tent, which can be easily stowed in your
pack, and is easy to set up.
The second kind of tent camping involves a semi-permanent tent,
which can be put on a camp site, and left standing for some
time. It does not need to be light weight, and can take a while
to set up. On the other hand, it must be sturdy and stay erected
for some time.
Usually this kind of tent camping takes place within the family
unit, on a designated camp site. The tent should therefore be
made of a good quality fabric in order to be able to resist the
constant attentions of children and possibly pets – not just
yours, but other peoples too.
When tent camping on a public site, it is also advisable to take
some kind of floor covering along too, since you will not have
much choice about where you pitch your tent, and if it is on a
rough surface, you will have to protect yourself against it.
Finally, there is trailer tent camping, which is somewhere
between a caravan and a tent. They tend to be very robust, and
suitable for pitching in all weathers and can be left erected
for some time.
