Make the most of
your backpacks
All backpacks have some key elements
specially designed for optimum backpacking experience and every
backpack is unique with its own structure. With scores of brands
for backpacks like Eagle Creek, High Sierra, The North Face,
Timberland, Travelon, Mountainsmith, McKlein and Victorinox®, to
choose from, make an informed decision about your backpack and
other hiking gear. Try to match its features with your backpacking
terrain and duration to choose the ideal one for your outdoor
trip.
When buying backpacks, make sure yours has
shoulder lift straps to pull the weight against your upper back
for balance, especially if you will be hiking for a long period.
Backpacking is a strenuous task and your backpack fabric should be
able to handle that. Opt for one made of a strong isotope of nylon
that can stand the test of time. Typically, this fabric is treated
to repel water but they are not completely water proof. Note the
seams in yours if you plan to go hiking in rainy weather. And
since you will be walking a lot, choose lightweight designs for
comfort.
You might also need to carry your sleeping
bags, first aid kits, binoculars and other hiking gear when
travelling for long durations. Look for backpacks which are top
loaders. In such a backpack panel access and sleeping-bag
compartments are very handy and you can put stuff you frequently
need at the top. And lastly, check for a water bottle pocket with
compression straps to keep the bottle in place. With a little
planning and the right companion, you can make your backpacking
expedition the hike of your life!
