Sleeping bags
for camping in the wilderness-add one to your camping equipment!
Finding the right
sleeping bags
is next most important thing to consider after your tents when packing
for the wilderness. Like your other equipment, these can be of
many types depending on personal preferences. Sometimes the
weather will be warm and dry, so you might not even need a
sleeping bag, however you should always carry one. Other times, to counter the cool night air in the
wilderness you will need outdoor wear and other equipment. The
shape, roominess and fabric feel of sleeping bags should be tried
just as you would try out a new mattress at home.
Most manufacturers offer two
basic shapes in sleeping bags, rectangular and mummy, plus some
variations of each. The most common one is the rectangular style.
It is roomy and comfortable inside, and can be opened and used as
a comforter on warm nights in the wilderness. The mummy style
sleeping bag is meant to wrap tightly around the sleeper, so it
will provide maximum warmth while using less material. Not
everyone likes the confines of the mummy, so you might want to try
one before buying. Don’t forget to add air mattresses and a pillow
in your equipment for a good nights sleep.
Also make sure you carry other
necessary camping stuff besides sleeping bags. You will need
water purifiers, torches, cooking utensils and camping recipes.
You might also find a light weight folding chair or stool very
useful in the wilderness after a hard days trek. A camp out is
great fun but it needs planning. Spend sometime to make a
checklist of all the equipment you will need before you set out.
Happy camping!
